EA Cancels New 'Titanfall' Game Amid Layoffs—Is 'Star Wars Jedi 3' Is Still Coming?

There is a massive overhaul happening over at Electronic Arts (EA) now, and this led to layoffs of its employees. Reports have also claimed that the company has now canceled a new "Titanfall" game that is still under development.

It has been a long time since the last mainline release for the franchise has been made, with many awaiting "Titanfall 3" to revive the series, but that may be down the drain now.

Because of this latest overhaul, many are now questioning the fate of the "Star Wars Jedi" franchise.

EA Cancels New 'Titanfall' Game Amid Layoffs

The latest report from Bloomberg details the current happenings over at EA, particularly as the company is now undergoing restructuring, which aims to help the company rise back from its losses.

However, this also means that it has to let go of certain developments within its game development ecosystem, and the one that takes the fall is a new "Titanfall" game that was in the works.

A recent statement from Respawn Entertainment, a known subsidiary of EA since 2017, explains the need to restructure to continue pushing new experiences for users. According to EA/Respawn, it had to "make some targeted team adjustments" but did not specify the titles that are affected by this latest change.

There is a total of 300 to 400 employees who were reportedly axed during the process, with 100 people facing layoffs over at Respawn Entertainment.

It has not been revealed what the specific "Titanfall" project that was affected is, and it has not been confirmed by either EA or Respawn as of press time if this is "Titanfall 3."

The report has claimed, however, that it is the game under the "R7" codename that is still in its early stage of development.

Is 'Star Wars Jedi 3' Still Coming?

Despite the somber news for fans and the laid off workers of the company, there is a silver lining from EA, particularly as the focus of this restructuring is towards putting its resources towards its other games.

There are two franchises from EA which are on the receiving end of the resources and focus from EA, and this includes "Apex Legends," and the "Star Wars Jedi" series.

While the specifics on these games have not been provided by EA, Respawn Entertainment, or the report, a separate story from ComicBook Gaming claims that the latest happenings point out to a brighter future for the "Star Wars" game.

The "Star Wars Jedi" franchise will reportedly continue to get a massive focus from EA, particularly as it is on its way to deliver the third installment of the franchise.

It is known that EA saw great success and critical acclaim for the first two games of this series, "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order" and "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor," and is intent on continuing the story of Cal Kestis.

The company has previously confirmed that it is working on the third title, and the latest news about it refocusing on the "Star Wars Jedi" franchise only means that the sequel is safe.
