E4 have hit back on Twitter after viewers were left absolutely baffled as to why they decided to show Christmas classic Home Alone in July.
A festive must for many households, the 1990 Christmas comedy stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old boy who must protect his house from a pair of burglars – the Wet Bandits – when he is accidentally left home alone by his family.
The film, which has spawned a number of sequels including box office smash Lost in New York, is just as popular now as it was on its release over three decades ago now, but that didn't mean that people were prepared to see it on TV five months before Christmas Day!

Home Alone aired on E4 on Sunday afternoon and, before its famous opening theme even had a chance to play out, its inclusion on the weekend's schedules caused a stir on Twitter.
One swiftly messaged E4's account to ask: "excuse me @E4Tweets what is home alone doing on, it is july?" A second reacted: "No way are E4 playing the best Christmas movie of all time (Home Alone) in July"
A third posted: "Home Alone is on E4 right now. It’s July 25th. You ok, @E4Tweets?" and another confused viewer tweeted: "Why the f**k are E4 showing Home Alone on a Sunday afternoon in July?
Directly responding to the first, E4 hit back: "It's been around 30 degrees the entire week, we needed a cool down!"
While some viewers were unimpressed by E4 showing Home Alone in July, others lapped up the opportunity to watch it earlier than they normally would, with one enthusing: "On a sunny afternoon in July, E4 have decided to show Home Alone. And if they think I’m gonna be watching it then they’re absolutely right"
Equally happy to see Kevin do his thing while temperatures stayed distinctly summery outside, a second responded: "Watching Home Alone on E4, getting me into the Christmas spirit. In July"
