E3: alternative top 10 games

E3: best of show: E3 Just Cause 2
Just Cause 2 (Publisher: Eidos. Developer: Avalanche. Platform: PC, PC3, Xbox 360. Release: TBC)
Sequel to the hit 'sandbox' shooter launched at E3 promises 'insane, adrenaline-fuelled stunts and action'. Once again you're a CIA Black Ops agent causing death and destruction on an island paradise. As you can see, this screenshot features a man with a rocket launcher standing on the roof of a jeep as it ploughs through a field of exotic flowers. This sort of thing doesn't happen enough, even in videogames. Check out the website

E3: best of show: E3 Lego Rockband
Lego Rockband (Publisher: Warner Bros/MTV. Developer: Traveller’s Tales/Harmonix. Platforms: PS3, Wii, Xbos 360. Release: winter 2009)
Arguably the best current rhythm action series clambers on stage with the world’s finest construction toy – only raw pleasure can ensue. As usual you play along to a selection of rock and pop classics, but here you can build your own band out of Lego bits, then customise the members unlockable fashion accessories. Genius

E3: best of show: E3 Blur
Blur (Publisher: Activision. Developer: Bizarre Creations. Platforms: PC, PS3, Wii. Release: autumn 2009)
Liverpool studio Bizarre Creations has spent the last 10 years pushing the racing game envelope into the far distance. Its latest project, Blur, features 20-car races through LA, Barcelona and, er, Hackney, but the key element will be the advanced social networking elements. Think Project Gotham Racing meets Facebook…

E3: best of show: E3 Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (Publisher: Tecmo. Developer: Team Ninja. Platform: PS3. Release: TBC)
Playable on the show floor at E3, the latest installment in Tecmo's uncompromising hack'n'slash series follows super ninja Ryu Hayabusa as he travels the word swirling his enormous sword at people. This time there's co-op action, and you get to play as Ayane from Dead or Alive! One for unreconstructed gamers only, perhaps [http://ninjagaidengame.com/ninjaGaiden/index.html]

E3: best of show: E3 Sin and Punishment 2
Sin and Punishment 2 (Publisher: Nintendo. Developer: Treasure. Platform: Wii. Release: 2010)
Japanese developer Treasure is the cult leader of the hardcore shoot 'em up fraternity. This post-apocalyptic 'run-and-gun' blaster is the follow-up to an old N64 gem. Never played it? Don’t worry, a port of the original is available on Wii’s Virtual Console. Check out the website

E3: best of show: E3 EyePet
EyePet (Publisher: Sony. Developer: Sony. Platform: PS3. Release: TBC)
You'll have to fight your way through Geordie jokes when this one starts getting coverage, but EyePet looks to be worth the effort. Announced ages ago, but now being properly demoed, it's an augmented reality virtual pet game using the PlayStation Eye camera. It'll interact with real-life objects placed in front of your console, or you can tickle it by waggling your fingers toward the screen. Check out the website

E3: best of show: E3 Last Guardian
The Last Guardian (Publisher: Sony. Developer: Team Ico. Platform: PS3. Release: TBC)

E3: best of show: E3 WarioWare DIY
WarioWare DIY (Publisher: Nintendo. Developer: Nintendo. Platform: Nintendo DSi. Release: TBC)
WarioWare titles usually provide dozens of teeny micro-games based around weird graphics and instantly accessible themes. In this one, however, players make the games themselves, designing their own characters and backgrounds, even using the Dsi camera. Creations can then be shared with friends. If this idea doesn’t interest you, you hate videogames

E3: best of show: E3 Zombie Panic in Wonderland
Zombie Panic in Wonderland (Publisher: Nintendo. Developer: Akaoni Studios, Platforms: Wii, Release: TBC)
Frankly, it’ll be a cold day in hell before Gamesblog tires of zombie shoot 'em ups. This one, designed for the WiiWare download service by newcomer Akaoni Studios, promises 'humor too macabre for Nintendo to handle'. Considering Nintendo’s biggest announcement at this year’s event was a bizarre Wii-compatible blood pressure monitor, that’s some claim
