Dyson announces futuristic-looking headphones that also purify air

Dyson has produced a set of eye brow raising headphones that are also designed to protect users from air pollution.

The noise cancelling Dyson Zone over-ear headphones are said to provide immersive sound to users alongside purified airflow to the nose and mouth, the Mirror reports.

Experts say that the mask-like device captures city pollution including gas, allergens and particulate matter.

The headphones also cancel unwanted noise with advised noise cancellation and high-fidelity audio.

Dyson has created its first ever wearable device, combining noise-cancelling headphones with an air purifying system (PA)

It has been reported that the futuristic headphones will be available online and in stores from this Autumn.

Jake Dyson, Chief Engineer at the firm, said: “Air pollution is global problem - it affects us everywhere we go. In our homes, at school, at work and as we travel, whether on foot, on a bike, or by public or private transport.

“The Dyson Zone purified the air you breathe on the move. And unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturised air pumps.

“After six years in development, we’re excited to deliver our air and pure audio, anywhere.”

The headphones will release later this year (PA)

The Dyson Zone air-purifying headphones are born from Dyson’s 30 years of expertise in airflow, filtration and motors technologies and deep understanding of indoor and outdoor air quality.

The compressors in each ear-cup draw air through the dual-layer filters and project two streams of purified air to the wearer’s nose and mouth, channelled through the non-contact visor.

Sculpted returns on the visor ensure purified airflow is kept near to the nose and mouth and diluted as little as possible by external crosswinds.

Dyson’s team of audio engineers and acousticians sought to engineer excellent audio led by metrics, backed up with extensive listening trials. The result? Pure, rich audio and advanced noise cancellation.

Despite the space constraints inherent with a wearable device, Dyson engineers developed a high performing neodymium electroacoustic system within each ear-cup, leaving you with a wide frequency response - precise left-right balance and distortion significantly below what can be detected by the human ear.
