‘Dysfunction on steroids’: Democrat Jim McGovern rips into Trump’s bill, claims there’s a ‘special place in hell’ for those who voted in its favor

Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” overcame what might have been its biggest hurdle this week as the Senate voted to pass it despite the controversy. The bill has seen plenty of criticism from all sides of the political board but one particularly outspoken Democrat by the name of Jim McGovern has delivered a scathing address to all who voted in its favor.

McGovern, the Democratic representative for Massachusetts 2nd congressional district, tore into the bill and Sen. Lisa Murkowski in particular. Murkowski apparently “agonized” over the bill for hours before finally deciding to lend her support which ultimately allowed VP J.D. Vance to break the tie on the bill.

The response to Murkowski

In a statement addressed to the House Rules Committee McGovern accused the Senator of “dereliction of duty.” Murkowski had expressed hopes that House Republicans would make necessary positive changes to the bill but McGovern shared his doubts over such a possibility.

“I mean, when was the last time this current House of Representatives has fixed or solved anything? I mean, where have you been, Sen. Murkowski?”

The Democrat rep went on to call the Republican House “dysfunction on steroids,” which is a pretty apt summary and also a decent name for a heavy metal band. In other words, we shouldn’t expect House Republicans to make any meaningful changes to the bill before they vote on it.

Jim McGovern rips into the bill

Footage of McGovern has also been shared online in which he further criticizes the Republicans as he outlined the reality of what the bill would really do to average Americans. In the clip he points out that, if passed, the bill will cut taxes for the rich while scrapping food benefits such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for the lower income households.

“It is a rotten thing to do and I believe there is a special place in hell for people who take food away from veterans, seniors, children, foster youth, and from hungry families. This is sick”

On top of taking food from the mouths of the less fortunate, this bill will also strip many Americans of their access to healthcare which, as you can imagine, has already caused a great deal of concern for the over 70 million people who are enrolled in Medicaid. It will also potentially increase the national debt by trillions.

It’s difficult to see who this bill is actually going to benefit, aside from all the billionaires whose pockets are going to be lined. McGovern may sound harsh when he says there’s a special place in hell for those who voted the bill in but his words come from a place of frustration with a system that seems content to keep taking from the poor while the rich continue to get richer.
