Dynel Lane: Colorado woman found guilty of cutting foetus from pregnant woman

A Colorado woman was found guilty of all six charges after she attacked a pregnant woman and cut the foetus out of the woman's womb.

Dynel Lane was convicted on charges of attempted first-degree murder, assault and unlawful termination of a pregnancy, according to the Associated Press.

The prosecution testified that Lane pretended to be pregnant and got Michelle Wilkins to her home by posting an ad for maternity clothes on Craigslist. When Ms. Wilkins entered her home, Lane hit and choked her before using two kitchen knives to cut the unborn girl out of the womb.

Ms. Wilkins survived, but the foetus did not. Prosecutors didn't charge Lane with murder because there was no proof from the coroner that the foetus survived outside the womb.

The grisly crime ignited a debate about the rights of foetuses.
