Dynamic Blues duo is back as Lauren James makes her Chelsea debut with brother Reece supporting

Reece James was seen on Thursday evening supporting his sister Lauren when she made her Chelsea debut against Servette, after making the move to West London from Manchester United in the summer.

Lauren James came on as a late substitute in the Champions League fixture where manager, Emma Hayes lauded her as ‘outrageous’. “We need to build her fitness, but she has shown that she can bring something to our team.

“Her technical qualities are outrageous and I am looking forward to building on her debut.”

Chelsea won with a narrow 1-0 result, but it was the reaction of her brother Reece James, as the camera switched the pictures to him that was the talking point after the game.

Reece James, clapped his sister as she made her way onto the pitch. It‘s almost static and robotic, as Reece is seen staring across the field without any joyous expression. We’re sure he was beaming inside.

But, it was quite a comical sight as one fan put on Twitter: Dying at the way he’s clapping, like dude crack a smile it’s your sister.”

It’s a rare sight in many ways to have two siblings succeed in the same professional sport. The James duo is unique in that they’re both Chelsea players and England internationals making them the dynamic brother and sister duo at the minute.

Seeing that support for each other is nice to see too. Reece, speaking to the club website told fans what they could expect from Lauren: ‘She’s an attacking player – direct, strong, powerful, can play with both feet.

“She’s got a few skills as well. I’m really proud of where she’s got to and I know she can still go so much further. I know that, with time, she’ll push on much more. I hadn’t seen many better players than her.

“Whenever we played together, I was always quite impressed. She played in the boys’ games all the time when I was younger – whenever I trained, she would train as well.”

But there are other sibling duos out there in football like Millie Turner (Manchester United) and Jake Turner (Newcastle United), Lucas Klostermann (RB Leipzig) and Lisa Klostermann (SGS Essen).

Reece James has had a flying start to his Chelsea career, since making his debut and scoring his first goal for the Blues in 2019. We love to see the support between the two and here’s to Lauren doing exactly the same at Kingsmeadow and beyond.

Lauren spent the early years of her career in the Chelsea academy before moving to Arsenal. She got her WSL debut appearance for Arsenal in October 2017 at 16 years of age, becoming the second-youngest player to ever appear for the club. The season after she joined the newly formed women's team in Manchester United and was one of the main signings they had high hopes for.

Lauren has struggled with injuries the last year and the slow return to action from Emma Hayes will hopefully keep the injuries away.

Hopefully, we will be seeing the James duo helping Chelsea win for many years.
