Dylan Rich: England pay tribute to teenage footballer who died after collapsing during match

The England squad have paid tribute to a young footballer who died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest during a game last week.

Dylan Rich collapsed during an FA Youth Cup match between West Bridgford Colts and Boston United in Nottinghamshire on Thursday.

The 17-year-old is thought to have suffered a second cardiac arrest while being transported to hospital before passing away on Sunday.

Ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Poland in Warsaw on Wednesday night, the Three Lions squad paid their own tribute to Rich.

Captain Harry Kane led the way in holding up a Three Lions shirt which read "For Dylan" as the squad had their pre-match photo taken.

Rich attended The West Bridgford School and head teacher Tim Peacock said: "We are a school in mourning.

"We have a lost a wonderful, much-loved, talented member of our community. This loss will be felt deeply by many people.

"At the moment our focus is on supporting his family, friends, classmates and teachers through this difficult time.”

In a statement earlier this week, the Football Association (FA) said they were "deeply saddened by the tragic news".

They said: "We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and everybody at the club at this very difficult time."
