Dylan O'Brien joins Charlie Cox in Marvel vs DC crossover

Dylan O'Brien American actor

In an exciting fan art creation, Dylan O'Brien as Nightwing joins Charlie Cox's Daredevil in a merging of the DC Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cox recently returned as Matt Murdock in the highly anticipated film 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' and is set to take on a lead role in Marvel Studios' upcoming project 'Daredevil: Born Again.' Meanwhile, O'Brien, although not having played the iconic role of Dick Grayson yet, is widely popular among fans as the perfect choice for Nightwing.

Instagram artists @arifinity_ and @bensolo_cup collaborated to bring to life a stunning crossover artwork featuring O'Brien as Nightwing and Cox as Daredevil, patrolling rooftops together. The artists reimagined both characters with modernized versions of their costumes, with Cox's Daredevil sporting a more classic look compared to his portrayal on Netflix's Daredevil or in the MCU. O'Brien, on the other hand, perfectly embodies the essence of Dick Grayson, further solidifying the case for his casting as Nightwing in the DC Universe's Bat-Family.

Interestingly, a Nightwing movie was initially planned as a spin-off to the 1997 film 'Batman & Robin,' featuring Chris O'Donnell. However, the project never materialized. Additionally, a DCEU Nightwing film was announced in 2017 but was later canceled.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe have been in competition at the box office for the past decade. The MCU gained a head start with 'Iron Man' in 2008, while the DCEU made its debut in 2013 with 'Man of Steel.' Marvel had already laid the groundwork for its iconic heroes and successfully brought them together in 'The Avengers' in 2012. In response, DC attempted to catch up by fast-tracking their heroes' introductions, resulting in a series of divisive films.

Due to the mixed reception of the DCEU, it would not have made much sense for Marvel to crossover with it. However, the landscape has now changed, with the new DC Universe replacing the DCEU. James Gunn, the creative chief of the new DCU and known for his work on Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' franchise, has commented on the possibility of a Marvel and DC crossover. Gunn stated, 'I'm certain that's more likely now that I'm in charge [at DC].' He even revealed that discussions about a crossover have taken place, but he believes it is still a distant future possibility. Gunn acknowledges that the DCU needs to establish itself and stand on its own before considering a crossover with the MCU. Furthermore, Marvel is currently navigating a phase of criticism, and the studio needs to address its own issues before envisioning interactions between Nightwing, Daredevil, and other DC and Marvel heroes.

The fan art collaboration by @arifinity_ and @bensolo_cup serves as a thrilling glimpse into the potential excitement a Marvel and DC crossover could bring. While actual crossovers may remain distant for now, this artwork allows fans to imagine the possibilities and ignite their enthusiasm for the incredible worlds of these beloved comic book characters.
