Dylan Connolly leaves St Mirren after rejecting new contract to sign for Northampton Town

Winger Dylan Connolly has left St Mirren to sign for English League Two side Northampton Town.

The 26-year-old made 39 appearances for the Buddies in all competitions last season, scoring three goals as the club narrowly missed out on a Premiership top six spot.

Despite having to make do with substitute appearances as the season wore on, Saints boss Jim Goodwin was still hoping to secure his services for another season and had offered the Irishman a new contract.

The former Wimbledon midfielder has instead decided to return back to England, with Northampton manager Jon Brady delighted to bring in the pacey asset.

Brady told ntfc.co.uk: "Dylan is a wide player with a lot of pace. He is direct, he takes on defenders and can deliver good quality balls in to the area.

"Dylan is a good age with a lot of experience of both League 1 and League 2 as well as playing in Scotland and we believe he is the type of player who supporters will enjoy watching and can have them on the edge of their seats. He has that spark to his game.

"I think is particularly important to have options in the squad in the attacking areas to help you play with a high level of energy and intensity.

"I know he had other options from other clubs so we are very pleased to welcome Dylan to the club."
