CHICAGO _ Dylan Cease had a career-high nine strikeouts in his ninth start as the White Sox beat the Rangers, 8-3, on Friday night in front of 27,016 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Cease (3-6) allowed a three-run home run to Willie Calhoun in the first inning, then held the Rangers scoreless for the next five innings. He allowed four hits in six innings for his first home victory since his big league debut July 3 against the Tigers.
In his second game back from the injured list, Yoan Moncada repeated his box score from the night before, going 2 for 4 with a run and two RBIs. He hit a double and a home run on each night, with Friday's his 22nd homer and 23rd double of the season.
Cease and relievers Evan Marshall, Aaron Bummer and Alex Colome limited the Rangers to four hits.
The Rangers had two hits in the first, including Calhoun's three-run homer. Cease didn't allow another hit until the fifth, when the first two Rangers reached with singles. Cease struck out Jeff Mathis and got Shin-Shoo Choo and Danny Santana to fly out to end the inning.
Adam Engel got the Sox in the game with a two-out, two-run double in the second inning to cut the Rangers' lead to 3-2.
The Sox scored three runs in the fourth. Yolmer Sanchez had an RBI single, Leury Garcia drove him in with a two-out double, and Tim Anderson followed with an RBI single.
Jose Abreu added another two-out RBI in the sixth with a double that brought home Garcia. Moncada followed with his two-run home run to right.
The Sox had seven two-out RBIs and won for the fourth time in five games.
