A Dyer, Indiana, man died Sunday after crashing his motorcycle on Interstate 65 in northwest Indiana.

The man, 26, was northbound at a high rate of speed about 1 a.m. when he slammed into the back of a pickup truck near the Merrillville-U.S. 30 exit and spun out of control, Indiana State Police said. The man struck the guardrail and fell onto the shoulder while his motorcycle slid about 500 feet forward.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. An autopsy Sunday ruled his death an accident by blunt force trauma, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

No one else was injured in the crash, police said. Northbound lanes were closed for over four hours as police investigated the scene.
