DxO Updates PureRAW With New Camera Support And More Features

DxO PureRAW is a great way to bring fresh detail and life to old and new RAW image files. Jean-Charles RIVAS

Anyone who’s serious about digital photography will probably shoot their photos using something called RAW format. Most digital cameras can shoot in RAW and it gives photographers far more flexibility and higher image quality because RAW images aren’t compressed and hold a lot more data and information that can be manipulated to produce a much better photo. It’s a bit like a digital version of the old film negatives we used to use before digital cameras we’re invented.

French imaging software developer DxO has just announced a major update to its DxO PureRAW package. The photo pre-processing software offers new options for controlling essential features like sharpness and distortion. The new version, which is a free upgrade for existing users of PureRAW, also offers more export configurations and supports eight camera models and 18 lenses which have been added to the database of DxO’s unique library of camera and lens data.

When used alongside Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom or most other photo editing packages, DxO PureRAW decodes and automatically removes digital noise, chromatic aberrations, unwanted vignetting, lens distortion before sharpening an image so that it looks as sharp as possible. By optimizing RAW images, DxO PureRAW gives photographers greater freedom over the creative editing process with Adobe software, resulting in more precise images.

The DxO PureRAW 1.5 update can now correct two lens defects: lack of sharpness and distortion. With this update, photographers can now process photos taken with fish-eye lenses or even scenes that require moderate sharpness.

"Following the successful launch of DxO PureRAW, customers sometimes wanted to be able to 'disengage' some of the automatic edits," explains Jean-Marc Alexia, VP Marketing and Strategy. "With this new version, we are offering them this flexibility."

DxO PureRAW 1.5 now makes it easier to select export directories by automatically saving recent and favorite destinations. Additionally, the preview window now includes a list of magnification factors so users can zoom in easily and judge the fine detail of an image. The software also lets users know the size of the image file that’s about to be created and how long it will take to process.

Perhaps most importantly of all, DxO PureRAW supports an extra eight new cameras and 18 lenses. You can look up the newly supported cameras and lenses by clicking here.
