Dwyane Wade tells an epic story about meeting Allen Iverson at a casino

Dwyane Wade was in awe of Allen Iverson back in the early 2000s.

In 2003, Wade was a rookie and Iverson was in the throughs of his first stint with the Philadelphia 76ers. With some help from former star Eddie Jones, who was Wade’s teammate on the Heat at the time, Wade made his way to meet Iverson for the first time. Where? At a casino in Puerto Rico.

“So I go with Eddie Jones, and he knew Allen Iverson was one of my favorite players, so he wanted to introduce me,” Wade said in a recent interview on Bleacher Report’s “Lefkoe Show.” “And he introduced me to Iverson right there when they were gambling, so Iverson’s gambling and I’m standing there the whole time. And he threw me a $1,000 chip and was like, ‘Yo, go play this, young fella.’ So I played $500, and I put the other $500 in my pocket, because I didn’t have money like that at the time.”

It’s going to be hilarious when stories like this trickle out about this generation of NBA superstars. Although, Iverson is among the many former players that squandered almost all of their significant fortune. Here’s hoping today’s NBA stars do not repeat that part of the league’s history.
