On Monday, Draymond Green went on an epic rant about the double standard the NBA has for players when they’re placed on the trade block.
His point was this: Players are criticized and fined when they ask for a trade or make it clear that they’re somehow unhappy with the situation they’re in. They’re essentially painted as villains.
But when a team wants to sit a player down to work on a trade like the Cleveland Cavaliers are doing Andre Drummond, everything is fair game. Green was clearly irritated by that.
Now, he has some support from a future Hall of Famer.
Dwyane Wade chimed in on the subject during Tuesday night’s NBA on TNT broadcast and agreed with Green’s points. He also added that, most times, players are actually caught off guard when they’re traded because they have no idea it’s about to happen.
It’s a matter of respect and honesty, according to Wade.

“A lot of people out there are like ‘Oh, you guys are getting paid a lot of money. It doesn’t matter.’ But it does because a lot of players in our league have families. And some players are told sometimes that you’re not getting traded, then they get traded. Some players have to find out by the media…What it boils down to me is there’s no communication and there’s no respect. The organizations are not looking at these players and just having respect for them and who they are as men, for who they are as players.”
They’re both exactly right.
