DWP issues first Cold Weather Payments of the season to dozens of postcodes across Scotland

The first Cold Weather Payments of the winter have been triggered by a cold snap across parts of the UK, including Scotland.

Those eligible will receive £25 to cover their heating bills, which is paid automatically into their bank accounts.

Cold Weather Payments are issued when the average daily temperature for the last seven days falls below zero, or the average temperature for that day and the next six days is forecast to be 0ºC or below.

Anyone receiving Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit or Support for Mortgage Interest may be eligible for the extra financial support.

Commenting on the first payments of the season, UK Government Scotland Minister, Iain Stewart said: “Looking after our fellow citizens and protecting the vulnerable in our communities is more important than ever during the current pandemic.

“The UK Government is committed to helping those in need stay warm during a cold Scottish winter. We know the difference Cold Weather Payments make and are pleased to offer this additional UK Government support.”
