DWP confirms major alteration to Universal Credit payments over Christmas

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed payment dates will be changing for all Universal Credit recipients over the Christmas period this year.

As Christmas Day falls on a weekend, people will not get their money as usual.

Universal Credit payments are usually paid monthly and according to the UK Government's website, if a payment date falls on a bank holiday - including Christmas - then claimants will receive the money earlier.

This year, Christmas falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day on Sunday. This means that both Monday, December 27 and Tuesday December 28 will both be official Bank Holidays this year.

And so according to the Government's website, anyone who usually receives their UC payment on those dates will get their money on the Friday before Christmas Day which this year is Christmas Eve.

Bank Holiday payment dates

Due Date Payment Date:

  • Due date: December 27; payment date: December 24
  • Due date: December 28; payment date: December 24
  • Due date: January 3; payment date: December 31

The amount that you receive and how you're paid should remain the same which also means that future payments shouldn't be affected.
