DWP Cold Weather Payment 2021 dates, who is eligible, and how much is given

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that next week will mark the beginning of the Cold Weather Payment scheme for 2021.

The scheme is aimed to provide those on certain benefits with extra financial support to heat their home in the case that their local area records particularly cold temperatures.

People who claim benefits including Income Support and Universal Credit will money for each week that the mercury drops, as reported by KentLive.

A sum of £25 will be transferred to those who are eligible for every seven-day period in which temperatures are "very cold" from November 1 through to March 31 2022.

The Cold Weather Payment is not a scheme that needs to be applied for, as all those who are eligible for the benefit should receive the money automatically.

It is stated on the government website that the grant will only be given "if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over seven consecutive days".

The full list of eligible benefits is:

  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Universal Credit
  • Support for Mortgage Interest

If you do not receive the cold weather payment when you should then you need to contact either the Pension Service or the Jobcentre Plus.
