DWP and HMRC confirm early payments for some people due State Pension or benefits next week

The official Spring bank holiday falls on Monday, May 29 which means payments delivered by the Department for Work and Pension (DWP) and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), including State Pension, Universal Credit, Tax Credits and Child Benefit, due on that date will be made early on Friday, May 26.

DWP confirmed changes to scheduled payments in the latest Touchbase bulletin, giving people advanced notice that jobcentres and phone lines will be closed on the bank holiday. It also said that payments are being made early so that anyone with any payment or benefit queries can contact the relevant department if needed.

DWP said: “On Monday 29 May, Jobcentre Plus offices and phone lines are closed. To make sure people get their payment on a day when Jobcentre Plus offices are open, some payments will be paid early. If the expected payment date is Monday 29 May, benefits will be paid on Friday 26 May.”

Social Security Scotland has now confirmed on Twitter that payments due on May 29 will be paid on Friday, May 26. This will mean offices, webchat services and phone lines will be closed on the bank holiday.

The bank holiday on May 29 is the third this month following the May Day holiday on May 1 and the Coronation bank holiday on May 8, giving millions of people across the country another long weekend to look forward to.
