Dwight Yorke names the two midfielders Manchester United should be targeting

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes Moises Caicedo is the midfielder Erik ten Hag needs to sign next.

The Reds have brought in Mason Mount already this summer - and are now eyeing moves for Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund. A move for another midfielder is not off the cards though, with Fred and Scott McTominay facing uncertain futures.

And in the eyes of Yorke, the Brighton and Hove Albion star would improve United significantly. Latest reports indicate there is a £100million price tag on his head, with Chelsea said to be considering a move.

"Price tags are ridiculous in football now," Yorke told BoyleSports. "It is what it is, but Moises Caicedo is a damn good player and had a great season for Brighton. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Man United sign him, because he plays in a position that we need more depth in.

"You see the change in quality when Casemiro comes out of the team due to suspension or injury: we don't look the same. Caicedo would give that energy in the midfield. He's very functional in the directness of his play and he's also aggressive and a great tackler. I'm not surprised to see Chelsea are in for him too."

One other shock midfield link this month has been Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey. The Ghana international is another player Yorke feels would boost United's squad and Ten Hag's options.

"Thomas Partey wouldn't be a bad signing for Man United," said Yorke. "But it depends on whether Mikel Arteta changes his formation to 4-2-3-1 - where he has two defensive midfielders, where both Declan Rice and Partey can play together. Having a player like Partey makes Man United or Arsenal more adaptable because they can play different positions with his qualities."
