Dwight Yorke gives Ralf Rangnick advice with Manchester United title verdict

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has hit back at claims his former side are shouldn't be challenging for the Premier League title.

The Reds are unbeaten in five in all competitions since the sacking of Solskjaer last month, and a youthful lineup drew 1-1 with Swiss side Young Boys on Wednesday evening as they rounded off their European action for 2021.

Yorke, who formed part of a deadly striker partnership with Andy Cole back in the late 1990s, believes the quality his former employers currently have at their disposal warrants a higher league position as they look to climb up the table under Ralf Rangnick.

"I don't like the criticism of the midfield, with people saying they're not world class. Do United not have enough world-class players already to be winning more games?'' Yorke told The Athletic.

"Was Darren Fletcher world class? John O'Shea? Nicky Butt? Phil Neville? No, yet they rose with world-class players around them and became very important players for United. A good manager gets 110 per cent from players, they get them to rise.

''All the players I've mentioned could do as good or even better than those around them. Did Leicester have a team of world-class players when they won the league? No. The current United side should be challenging for the title."

The Reds currently sit sixth in the Premier League, and with relegation-threatened Norwich City the next task for Rangnick and his side this weekend.
