Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard didn’t get along very well during their time as teammates with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant has gone on record since playing with Dwight to say that he tried to teach him what it takes to win a championship and the work involved made Howard uncomfortable. He also teamed up with Shaquille O’Neal to clown Dwight on social media as recently as last month.
But none of that has stopped Howard from acquiring what appears to be one of the more extensive collections of Kobe Bryant sneakers. Howard showed off his Kobe kicks in a short video he posted to Instagram on Thursday. The video highlights at least five rows of Kobe sneakers that are roughly 10 pairs deep. There’s also a chance there are even more adidas and Nike Kobe shoes that didn’t quite make the video.
Since cracking jokes with Shaq at Dwight’s expense, Kobe did come out earlier this month and say that he believes Howard is ready for a second chance with the Lakers. Maybe he heard about how many pairs of his shoes Dwight has before making the comments, or maybe he truly believes what he said. If Kobe is right, Howard could help rewrite his NBA legacy by proving to be a difference-making contributor in a limited role who helps LeBron James and company pursue a title this season.
