Dwight Howard has long been a fan of superhero movies. He rocked a Superman cape during the 2008 NBA dunk contest. His home is full with superhero-themed memorabilia.
But lately, Howard has found inspiration in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most notorious villain … Thanos.
In a tour of his $8.8 million Atlanta mansion with Graham Bensinger, Howard was showing off his cars when they arrived at a purple Rolls Royce. Howard said that he chose to make the car purple as a nod to Avengers villain Thanos, and his reason for that was, uh, something.
Howard said about Thanos:
“He was able to understand that, in order for him to complete his mission, he had to get rid of his emotions. And that’s hardest thing that we all we face.”
That mission, of course, was a mass genocide (albeit fictional) of 50 percent of the universe’s life. But yeah, Howard commended Thanos’ emotional fortitude in the carrying out of that genocide. Those sacrifices included throwing his daughter off a cliff.
NBA fans predictably had plenty of reaction to Howard’s comments.
The jokes were … inevitable.
