It was just over a year ago that we discovered the mystery that was Dwight Howard taking free throws a few steps away from the charity stripe. Perhaps it was a way to get more arc on his shot? We still don’t have an answer, as far as I can tell.
The Philadelphia 76ers center is back at it again, as we’ve seen recently, and … yeah, it’s not really working all that well. He’s shooting an even 50 percent from the free-throw line, down from last year’s putrid 51.4 percent and below his career average of 56.5 percent.
On Wednesday, he actually airballed a shot, leading to this hilarity from both Seth Curry and Joel Embiid:

But seriously — he might as well take a three-pointer!

This is last year’s distance, so … I think he’s farther back??
Has anyone seen any reporting on why Dwight Howard is shooting free throws a few feet behind the free throw line?
As best I can tell, it started in the 2/6 game against Houston. pic.twitter.com/SASEhpmIn6

Maybe it’s time to try something different?
