Dwight Gayle's Range Rover stolen - but it has a VERY distinctive registration plate

Newcastle United star Dwight Gayle says his Range Rover - which has the registration DWI6HT G - has been stolen.

The striker issued a Twitter appeal to find the luxury motor after claiming thieves in Essex took it.

He posted the appeal just hours before it was announced Rafa Benitez would be leaving St James' Park on June 30.

Next to an image of the vehicle, Gayle wrote: “Stolen grey Range Rover SVR from Chingford.

“Could possibly have removed wrap to be original black colour.”

West Brom fans desperate for Gayle-Rondon switch

Fans shared the snap in a bid to track it down - with some claiming they were "gutted" for him.

The 28-year-old was loaned out by Benitez last season to West Brom, where he scored 24 goals in the Championship.

Despite being a smash hit for the Baggies, the Midlands club balked at the £20m asking price demanded by Newcastle.

Talk of a possible swap deal between Gayle and West Brom's Salomon Rondon - who moved the other way on loan last season - has swirled, although the Magpies are also understood to be , despite netting 11 times last season.

And if not, that could mean Gayle finds himself back in favour at St James' Park under Newcastle's next manager, especially given the club's current lack of strikers.
