Dwight Gayle misses out at Spotland to spark fresh January transfer speculation

Dwight Gayle missed out on the FA Cup clash at Rochdale due to a tight hamstring.

The striker was expected to lead the line but was pulled out of the squad for Spotland on the eve of the game.

Bruce was believed to have planned to play Gayle in attack alongside Joelinton, but

Gayle has also been linked with a host of Sky Bet Championship clubs ahead of the scramble for January transfers.

Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham have all been past admirers of the ex-Crystal Palace striker.

His absence also allowed Danish youngster Elias Sorensen the chance to step up to the bench .

Sorensen is back from an unsuccessful stint on loan at Carlisle United.
