Dwight Gayle hands Steve Bruce a major boost after returning to first team training

Dwight Gayle has returned to full training with Newcastle United.

The former Crystal Palace striker is back from a warm weather training camp in Portugal, and is back in contention for Premier League action.

Steve Bruce stated last week that he had yet to really see Gayle in practice sessions after the striker picked up a calf injury during the club's tour of China in July.

The initial injury suffered by Gayle actually occurred as Bruce was about to pack his bags and join United's summer visit to the Far East.

Gayle has endured a series of setbacks since then but is now eyeing a return to top-flight action.

Whether that will be against Man United or against Chelsea after the international break depends on how he reacts this week.

Also pictured in training today was Jonjo Shelvey but Bruce said last week he could be missing for a fortnight with a hamstring problem.

Jetro Willems is also back in contention for the Man United game after missing the defeat at Leicester.
