Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's father, Rocky, dies at age 75

Rocky Johnson, father of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, has died at age 75.

The elder Johnson was a professional wrestler in WWF, now WWE, and one half of the first black tag team to win a championship belt, alongside Tony Atlas. He is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Johnson and his second wife, Ata Maivia, had their son Dwayne on May 2, 1972. Dwayne first followed in his father's footsteps as a professional wrestler, using "The Rock" as his ring name, before going on to a career as a movie star. Dwayne was also a college football player at the University of Miami.

With his marriage to Maivia, Johnson joined the Samoan Anoa'i family wrestling dynasty.

"I am so sorry to hear of the passing of the great Rocky Johnson," WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley tweeted. "Always a gentleman, I always enjoyed talking with him. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the fans who loved him. A very sad day for wrestling. #RIPRockyJohnson

In addition to Dwayne, Johnson had two other children, Curtis and Wanda.

Cauliflower Alley Club, an organization of professional wrestlers and boxers, announced the news in a tweet.
