Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's daughter signs with WWE to follow in father's footsteps

Dwayne Johnson's 18-year-old daughter Simone has confirmed she is taking after her father and getting involved in WWE.

The WWE Performance Center confirmed that she has 'reported to begin training,' and it is only a matter of time before she takes to the wrestling ring.

It is certainly something that runs in the family, with Simone set to become the latest in a long line of ancestors to have participated.

Her father Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is one of the most famous faces in the history of the sport, and was active for eight years before turning his hand to acting.

His father Rocky, who passed away last month, was also a big name, and along with his partner Tony Atlas became the first black champions in WWE history when they won the World Tag Team Championship in 1983.

And Peter Maiva, who would have been Simone's great-grandfather, was also a professional wrestler in the 1970s, and was nicknamed 'High Chief'.

Simone released a statement following news of her involvement in WWE, saying: "It means the world to me. To know that my family has such a personal connection to wrestling is really special to me and I feel grateful to have the opportunity, not only to wrestle, but to carry on that legacy."

Triple H, who is now executive vice president of Talent, Live Events & Creative, also spoke out, saying: "Simone Johnson's unbridled passion and incredible drive has earned her a coveted spot training with the elite athletes from around the world at the WWE Performance Center.

"Not only does Simone now have an opportunity to cultivate and display her passion for WWE within the Performance Center, but she'll carry on the tradition of her incredible family lineage while creating her own impact as WWE's first fourth generation superstar."

Simone first revealed her intentions to follow a wrestling career like her dad back in 2017.

The 10-time world champion turned Hollywood megastar's eldest child said: "It's a sport that is unlike anything else in the world.

"There's just a certain amount of passion that every move and match requires, and that's so admirable. It's definitely something I've thought about and want to pursue."

The Golden Globes teen ambassador also appeared to rule out acting - at least for now - repeating: "I want to pursue wrestling."
