Dwayne Haskins targeted as Redskins’ best offseason move

The Washington Redskins made plenty of noteworthy moves this offseason, from retaining their own to going big in free agency with Landon Collins.

Yet, finding a potential franchise quarterback at a good value seems to naturally trump all other contenders.

For Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton, the Redskins excelled where others have failed, which makes the selection of Haskins the team’s best move of the offseason:

The Redskins didn’t make the same mistake as the Broncos last year. The front office acquired Case Keenum but still took a quarterback in the first round.

It’s hard to argue the point. The Redskins didn’t cough up anything to move up and get Haskins, so the value was right. He’s talented enough to start as a rookie, yet has enough upside to potentially become the sought-after answer for the long term.

Compared to other moves it makes sense too. Collins was a big get for the defense, but the value was debatable and the front seven is so good almost any safety might have excelled back there.

Perhaps the other big contender so far is the decision to trade up for Montez Sweat, who was no stranger to the top 10 in a lot of mocks. But the medical concerns and his transition to the pros still have to play out — and the positional value can’t compete with quarterback.

Naturally, Haskins was the best move of the offseason. Even better, it might pay off immediately.
