Dwayne Haskins takes inspiration on his situation from Brady, Brees

Dwayne Haskins has remained level-headed about his situation with the Washington Redskins.

Despite a disappointing showing from Case Keenum, the rookie still isn’t getting a chance to show what he can do — and there have been plenty of rumors about why.

But Haskins is mostly ignoring the noise, instead understanding he isn’t the first rookie in history to go through this.

“No, I’m happy for those guys,” Haskins said, according to ESPN’s John Keim. “It’s easy to look at the rookie class and be like, ‘Rookies are playing, why am I not playing?’ I want to be like Tom Brady and Drew Brees and that’s something that doesn’t happen overnight. Tom didn’t play at first; Aaron Rodgers didn’t play at first.”

He’s certainly not wrong.

Jay Gruden and the staff still consider Haskins the backup to Keenum and Colt McCoy is slowly getting in the mix too. Haskins had a few first-team reps, but Keenum appears healthy and ready.

Perhaps the wost thing Haskins could do at this point is compare his situation to that of Daniel Jones of the New York Giants. No rookie quarterback situation is the same and just because he isn’t starting doesn’t mean people around him don’t have his best interests on the mind.

For now, Haskins is waiting — and he’s taking a mature approach about it, too.
