Dwayne Haskins takes a big-picture outlook after NFL debut

Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins isn’t letting the noise get to him.

Haskins made a couple of rookie mistakes Thursday night against the Cleveland Browns, mistakes that could also fly under the “miscommunication” umbrella depending on the intent of the play calls.

Either way, Haskins has been adamant in his theme in every interview since — it’s about the long term outlook. This theme extended to an interview with the team’s official website, where he kept it just as simple: “I’m excited for my potential.”

Social media? Same story. On an in-depth film analysis of Haskins’ first effort by Brian Baldinger, Haskins again emphasized the long-term outlook:

Fans understand this well enough — growing pains happen for rookie passers. Provided the Redskins take the same patient approach, it lessens the chances they mishandle his development.

Haskins has a long way to go, even when it comes to this preseason. That he’s ready from the mental side is not only obvious but a great thing.
