Dwayne Haskins speaks on Joe Theismann letting him wear No. 7

It is only May and rookie minicamp, so it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to learn one of the biggest storylines surrounding the Washington Redskins pertains to the No. 7.

Dwayne Haskins had to seek out the blessing of Joe Theismann to don the number for the Redskins. Since earning it, he’s talked about what it means.

“It has great significance to me and my family,” Haskins said, according to Kyle Stackpole of Redskins.com. “It’s more than just a number. Just being able to carry that on throughout my life for multiple years. It means a lot to me, and I’m thankful Joe let me wear the number.”

This has probably been a bigger story than it deserves to be in large part because the NFL has finally transitioned to its brief quiet period before training camps start.

Still, Theismann took some heat for the situation. In reality, he just wanted to get to know the next potential franchise passer for the Redskins.

It is clear this saga is finally over. And for what it’s worth, Haskins looks great in the number while tossing some touchdowns.
