Dwayne Haskins named starting quarterback for final preseason game

Case Keenum has been named the starting quarterback for Washington, but that doesn’t mean that rookie QB Dwayne Haskins can’t get some experience with the first-team offense in the preseason.

On Monday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden announced that Haskins would get the start for the final preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday. He also said that Haskins would likely get a bulk of the workload, while many of the other starters and high-profile players are likely to sit and limit injury risk.

In other roster news, Gruden declared that at the moment, Donald Penn is the starting left tackle for the team. Penn was brought in this offseason in the wake of the Trent Williams holdout — which is still going on — but he has often-times struggled early on. Still, with the team lacking a better option, he will get the nod to play with the first team until Williams returns, if and when that happens.

Gruden also said that they are confident tight end Jordan Reed would be able to play in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, though he is dealing with a concussion at the moment.
