Dwayne Haskins is already impressing as a leader

One of the big reasons NFL teams coveted Dwayne Haskins, other than his obvious talent on the field, was the way he leads the locker room.

The Washington Redskins and those around them are learning this already.

ESPN’s Matthew Berry sat down with the Redskins Talk Podcast recently and recalled his time interviewing Redskins players recently. Berry noted the following (h/t Jordan Dajani of 247 Sports):

“I thought what was really cool was when I was interviewing McLaurin, Dwayne Haskins came in and interrupted the interview to give him some crap,” Berry said. “It was really a wonderful moment to see. Obviously, they know each other very well from Ohio State, but just the fact that they felt comfortable enough and he wanted to come over and mess with him a little bit and have some fun, I was impressed with that.”

Berry also had a chance to interview not only other Redskins players, but former Ohio State products like Parris Campbell.

The main takeaway? The Redskins are getting quite the leader: “I thought that was really cool, and just showed somebody who’s very comfortable in the leadership position and who’s trying to be inclusive of everyone. It’s early in the process, but I have yet to hear somebody on or off the record say something bad about Dwayne Haskins.”

With Haskins already impressing in OTAs with some of this throws, it is good to hear an outside opinion on some of the other intangibles.

At this pace, Haskins could set himself apart from other quarterbacks on the roster simply for the way he rallies the guys around him, which also has to play a part in the competition.
