Dwayne Haskins has improved during the week leading to first start

The Washington Redskins are fully embracing rookie Dwayne Haskins this weekend against the Buffalo Bills due to an injury suffered by Case Keenum.

But Haskins’ play hasn’t exactly dissuaded the coaching staff.

Redskins interim coach Bill Callahan hit the podium Friday and while noting Haskins will officially be the starter, made it clear Haskins has made strides throughout the week, according to Zach Selby of the team’s official website.

While Callahan noted he wouldn’t name Haskins the starter the rest of the year, he said it was important to get the announcement out of the way. Speculation had otherwise hinted that Keenum could feel better enough by Saturday for a walkthrough and end up starting anyway.

That idea is now over officially, with Haskins getting the nod as starter. Improvement during practice while getting first-team reps sure didn’t hurt his chances.
