Dwayne Haskins earns more rave reviews after latest Redskins camp practice

Early returns from Washington Redskins training camp have had a common theme surrounding the quarterback position.

Mostly, said theme suggests Colt McCoy is doing just fine in the competition. Perhaps more important to Redskins fans, first-round pick Dwayne Haskins has flashed some obvious massive upside, but struggled with rookie mistakes at the same time.

The tide seemed to turn on the Haskins point Sunday, though, as noted by JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington: “Most impressive 11v11 session from Haskins I’ve seen. Even correctly audibles on the last snap, handles the line of scrimmage and gets a quick gainer on the outside to Cam Sims.”

This impressive uptick continued near the end zone:

Redskins fans understand quite well that one good day like this isn’t going to turn the tide of a likely lengthy quarterback battle.

But being encouraged by the sudden leap? Perfectly understandable. If the playmaking ability and natural traits start to intersect well with an adaption to the speed of the game and understanding the playbook, Haskins might soon seriously contend for the top spot on the depth chart.

If Haskins strings a few days like this together, it will be time to start talking about naming him frontrunner before preseason games start.
