Dwayne Bravo announces retirement after West Indies suffer T20 World Cup elimination

West Indies great Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from international cricket after the side were officially knocked out of the T20 World Cup.

The West Indies entered the tournament as the reigning champions and Bravo had actually reversed his retirement in 2019 in a bid to aid their title defence.

However, the all-rounder's efforts proved to be in vain as a 20-run defeat to Bangladesh on Thursday confirmed their exit from the competition at the Super 12 stage.

The West Indies still have one more game left to play against Australia on Saturday, which is likely to be Bravo's final international appearance.

The 38-year-old, who helped the West Indies win two T20 World Cups, said after the defeat to Bangladesh: "I think the time has come. I’ve had a very good career.

"To represent the West Indies for 18 years, had some ups and downs, but as I look back at it I’m very grateful to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long.

"To win three ICC trophies, two with my captain [Daren Sammy] on the left here.

"One thing I am proud about is that, the era of cricketers we had, we were able to make a name for ourselves on the global stage and not only do that but have silverware to show for it."

West Indies captain Kieron Pollard, meanwhile, insisted he has no plans to retire from international cricket, saying: "We came to the World Cup to win and we haven't done that.

"Unless you're part of decisions that are going to get rid of me or fire me or retire me, as I stand right now, I have no intentions of not playing international cricket.

"One tournament or a couple of bad games don't make a summer. And for me personally, there's a lot of mileage in my legs as an individual."
