DVLA warns of huge backlog to getting provisional driving licences

Drivers have been warned by the DVLA over a huge backlog of provisional driving licences with some having to wait around 10 weeks for it to come through.

People have been told to expect a long wait by the government agency, lasting around 6 to 10 weeks, to get a new licence.

According to the DVLA's website, paper applications dating back to the start of August are still being worked on however the body claims that online licence applications are quicker, Birmingham Live reports.

A statement on the DVLA's website says: "Please allow up to 10 weeks from when you sent your application to receive your driving documents, before you contact us.

"You can check if your new licence has been issued by using our view driving licence service. The ‘licence valid from date’ will be the date your last licence was issued.

"Once your licence has been issued please allow 2 weeks from the ‘licence valid from date’ to be received."
