The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) have unveiled figures that indicate UK drivers collectedly paid £2.3 million more than they needed to when renewing their driving licence in the past year
When renewing a licence, motorists can either fill out a physical form and send it off to the DVLA, or can do the entire process online.
Using the online renewal service is not only the considerably quicker option - with an average turnaround of five days - but it is also cheaper.

The price of the paper form, which needs to be posted, is £17, while doing it online costs only £14.
Between April 2020 and March 2021, nearly a quarter of all driving licence renewal applications were sent through the post, as reported by the Daily Record.
The new figure released by the DVLA demonstrates how collectively this extra £3 per application adds up.
As well as being a cheaper and quicker way to order a driving licence, the online renewal service allows drivers to track the status of their application.
If your licence renewal is coming up, DVLA will send a reminder before your current licence expires as photocard driving licences must be renewed every 10 years.
Julie Lennard, DVLA Chief Executive, said: "Our online services are the quickest and easiest way to deal with DVLA and customers usually receive their driving and vehicle documents in just five days.
"Remember to always use GOV.UK when using DVLA’s online services."
