DVLA confirm the surprising medical conditions you must report or face a fine

Drivers who live with specific medical conditions and don't inform the DVLA may be hit with a heavy fine - and the list is surprisingly long.

Given the lengthy index of ailments, there could be potentially millions of drivers that are unaware they need to disclose their condition to the DVLA.

As reported by The Mirror, some inclusions are unsurprising - like those that affect the eyes or induce blackouts.

However, many other conditions on the list may not normally be associated with impaired driving.

For example, anxiety, depression and certain types of cancer are all on the list, so in theory could land you with a fine if not disclosed to the DVLA.

According to the driving authority, failure to disclose a medical condition that could affect driving skill may result in a fine of up to £1,000.

You may also be prosecuted if you’re involved in an accident as a result.

As well as needing to declare any of the listed medical conditions, there are some circumstances when you need to surrender your licence to the DVLA.

They include:

  • Your doctor tells you to stop driving for three months or more
  • Your medical condition affects your ability to drive safely and lasts for three months or more
  • You do not meet the required standards for driving because of your medical condition

For more information on the medical conditions you need to tell the DVLA about, you can check out their website here.
