A Dutchman was arrested for stealing an ATM in Khon Kaen early Sunday morning.
Police said the Dutchman, identified only as Sijtse, was arrested while hiding on a roadside near a stolen ATM and his pickup truck on Maliwan Road in tambon Ban Thum early Sunday morning.
An ATM of Siam Commercial Bank was tied up with big chains that were attached to the truck. The ATM was apparently dragged from a shop for about 20 metres.
According to police, the Dutchman has lived in Thailand for six years. He gave 10 million baht to his 37-year-old Thai wife who then opened an eatery on Pracha Samran Road.
Before the theft, he had a financial dispute with his wife and told her he would meet a friend in Nong Khai province.
“The wife had nothing to do with the incident. The vehicle used in the case belongs to a relative and its use was shared within the family. The foreign man used it in the crime,” a local policeman said.
Police were investigating whether the Dutchman had any accomplices.
