Dutch Restaurant Sets Isolated Booths to Maintain Social Distancing

A Dutch restaurant has come up with a new idea to allow his customers, who have stayed at home during the coronavirus crisis, to return. It has built isolated glass booths that could provide a temporary solution until the pandemic ends.

The Mediamatic Biotoop eatery on the island of Oosterdok near Amsterdam has set five glass booths that allow customers to eat their food safely while respecting the social distancing rules. The new setting was trialed by a number of volunteers. The beautiful glass structures are on the canal side, lit only by candlelight.

The restaurant is currently testing them out, and plans to open them with a fully plant-based menu when granted permission.

Waiters pass through dishes from a safe distance, and the restaurant will only allow people dining together who live in the same house.

The socially-distanced dining is supposed to be maintained until a vaccine against the coronavirus becomes widely available. Many reservations have been made until the end of June, although it is still unclear whether the glass booths will be approved or not.

The Mediamatic said it plans to implement the socially-distanced dining measures and it has already prepared for them, but the scheme might be canceled and the restaurant might be closed in case the government didn't approve it.

The idea gained huge support that reflected the depression people live since the beginning of May, as the government will likely ask its citizens to stay at home within the coming weeks.
