Dutch pundit's bizarre rant at Marcel Brands and Everton transfer strategy

One Dutch pundit has heavily criticised Marcel Brands and taken a swipe at Everton's transfer strategy under the director of football.

The Blues had another summer of big spending to add quality to the squad after also selling the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Nikola Vlasic and Ademola Lookman to bring in money.

Brands was in the Dutch media last week speaking about Adam Maher and Bert Ramselaar, two players he brought to PSV who are now with FC Utrecht, commenting on them not making the cut at Eindhoven.

In response, however, former Dutch international Wim Kieft has taken a swipe at the Everton director of football saying that he should shoulder the blame for the players' failings.

The Euro '88 winner, speaking before this weekend's win over West Ham, went on to criticise Brands' time at Everton and the poor start to the season the Blues have had despite a summer of investment.

Speaking to De Telegraaf , he said: "You don’t expect someone like Brands to blame others for failing players whose talent he himself misjudged…He should have just said about Maher and Ramselaar: ‘Sorry, I was mistaken and it cost PSV too much money…’

"Nevertheless, the presence of the Dutch technical director Brands is by no means a guarantee of success. Although he can buy almost any player that he wants and has attracted many players without producing results.

"Everton finished in eighth place without European football and despite major investments, the club is now third from the bottom, at a place where you (are) relegated at the end of the season.

"I fear for the position of the Portuguese trainer Marco Silva at Everton. Brands is better at looking in the mirror instead of covering up his mistakes and blaming others."

Seven of Everton's starting 11 which comfortably beat West Ham at the weekend were signed by the Silva and Brands, with many supporters believing the strategy over the last two summers is a major improvement on the previous regime.
