Overall newspaper sales in the Netherlands fell further in the third quarter of 2008 compared with the second quarter. Though the market-leading De Telegraaf registered a slight increase (up from 623,000 to 631,000) competing titles, such as NRC Handelsblad, De Volkskrant, Algemeen Dagblad, Trouw and Het Financieele Dagblad, lost buyers.
