Dutch great tells Manchester United why they should have signed Christian Eriksen

Dutch football great Arnold Muhren believes Manchester United should have signed Christian Eriksen in order to get the best out of the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford this season.

United had been linked with a move for the Tottenham midfielder in the summer transfer window but ultimately turned down the opportunity to sign the Danish midfielder to prioritise keeping Paul Pogba.

The MEN understand United were under the belief Eriksen would rather move to Real Madrid and as result did not accept Tottenham's offer of bidding for him.

However, former United midfielder Muhren believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should have signed Eriksen in order to add more creativity to their midfield play.

"United should have bought Eriksen from Spurs," Muhren told Love Sport Radio.

"United need a creative player like him in the team. He's a creative midfield player, he's got a good eye for through balls, he can score himself, he's just a playmaker.

"That said, they've got four brilliant players up front - they just lack that more creative talent in midfield."

Speaking earlier in the year Eriksen admitted he was considering a fresh challenge in his life as he enters the final year of his contract with Spurs.

"I feel that I am a place in my career where I might want to try something new," Eriksen said two months ago. "I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened in Tottenham, nor will it be negative.

"But I have also said that I would like to try something new."
