Dutch football expert says Hakim Ziyech to Arsenal transfer could depend on Mesut Ozil

Arsenal have been touted as a likely destination for Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech, with the Dutch side reportedly open to selling their star player for the right price.

Ziyech was a key part of the Ajax side that lifted the Eredivisie title and advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, with the 26-year-old scoring 21 goals and registering 18 assists across all competitions.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim that Ziyech has been told he can leave the Amsterdam club in the current transfer window, but only if his asking price of £43 million is met.

This has reportedly alerted the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, but according to Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan, the Gunners stand in a good position to secure his services due to Ziyech's stance.

"I know that the player is keen on a club like Arsenal, who have always played good football," he told Sky Sports' Transfer Window Podcast in June.

"Manchester City also under Pep Guardiola play a kind of Johan Cruyff-Ajax style of football, as do Barcelona. But not all of these clubs will line up for him.

"I think that if Arsenal did not have Mesut Ozil, they would have been the perfect club for him. But now, he has to choose between clubs in the Bundesliga, two or three clubs.

"In Serie A, Roma have come back in for him after going for him last summer, while there are also one or two clubs in Spain who want him. But he is not that keen and Ajax are now aware that the best bit of business they may do this summer is to give him a new contract, rather than sign a new big-name attacker or midfielder."

Speaking in the summer, Ajax director of football Marc Overmars confirmed the club would eventually allow him to leave.

"He leaves when a top club comes. He is in focus because of his achievements in the Champions League," the former Arsenal winger said.

"Many big clubs are buzzing around him. We promised Hakim [that we would] agree to a good transfer."
