Dutch FA to consider u-turn which would be great news for Hakim Ziyech ahead of Chelsea move

The Dutch Eredivisie are said to be considering a stunning reversal on their decision to declare the 2019/20 season null and void, with legal challenges against them mounting.

It was announced on Friday that the season was to end due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis, with no league champions, relegation or promotion within the top-two divisions of Dutch football.

However, that is said to have left a number of clubs furious and Dutch publication AD states a number of clubs are considering legal challenges - including second-division side Cambuur, who held an 11-point lead at the top of the table.

Who's played the most Premier League minutes?

The likes of FC Utrecht within the Eredivisie are also said to be furious, with the club three points behind Willem II in the battle to secure a Europa League spot - which would result in a significant financial boost.

Dutch politician Mark Boumans has suggested that the decision could now be reversed, it what would be a remarkable development.

"I even think it can be reversed. My conclusion is that if half of the clubs plus one want to reverse the outcome of this week's chaotic decision-making, then that is possible."

The Eredivisie’s decision has still left plenty to be decided, the most significant of which is UEFA qualification as Europe’s governing body has declared that spots in the Champions League and Europa League must be decided on ‘sporting merit’.

Reversing the decision would be fantastic news for Hakim Ziyech ahead of his £33.4m move to Chelsea this summer.

The attacking midfielder has already expressed his disappointment at not being able to leave Ajax with another league title.

"This isn't the way I wanted to finish the season and say goodbye to Ajax, obviously,” he told  Voetbal International. "I and all people around the club, had something great in mind for the coming months. That isn't happening and that's very unfortunate.

"I knew it was over when [Dutch PM Mark] Rutte said there will be no football until the first of September.

"I wanted to end my time here in a good way, with a championship title.

"On the other hand, I immediately accepted it because there's clarity now. The health of all people is more important, after all.

"It is weird. Not just for me, but for everyone in the Netherlands and the rest of the world.

"I'm quite relaxed, to be honest. I try to keep busy and not give over to the crisis.

“Everybody should try to keep doing what he or she is supposed to be doing. I do that by training every day.

"By doing that I want to make sure that I'm ready to deliver on the field as soon as this is all behind us."
