Dutch centre-back linked to Newcastle United answers questions on his future

Danilho Doekhi says 'nothing is going on' after being linked away from Vitesse.

Dutch media have credited Newcastle United with an interest in the centre-back alongside Rangers FC and Feyenoord.

Doekhi, 23, has impressed as Vitesse finished fourth in Holland's top-flight, qualifying for the Europea League.

The former Ajax graduate has played 32 times this season - even captaining the side against Twente.

Asked about the rumours he could move this summer, he was quoted by RTV Rijnmond as saying: "Interest, in me? I still have a contract for next year.

"We’re going to see how things are progressing but nothing is going on for the time being.”

Newcastle have been linked to several centre-backs including Celtic's Kristoffer Ajer and QPR's Robert Dickie as Bruce looks to tighten his defence.

Paul Dummett, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar could all leave this summer with the club yet to confirm they've exercised an extension for any of the trio.

With captain Jamaal Lascelles out injured, full-back Emil Krafth has filled in for him into a system that sees three centre-backs deployed.
