Dustin Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation donates 1,000 meals to hospital staff amid COVID-19 crisis

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier continues to use his platform for the betterment of his community.

This time Poirier and his charity, The Good Fight Foundation, are taking care of front lines medical workers during the coronavirus pandemic in his hometown of Lafayette, La.

Poirier and the non-profit organization announced the plan on social media, in conjunction with Deanos Pizza, to provide 1,000 meal to medical staff on Easter Sunday.

“The Good Fight Foundation will be teaming up with Deanos Pizza and donating 1,000 meals to the hospital staff on the front lines of COVID-19 in Lafayette, LA (on) Easter Sunday and throughout next week,” the statement read. “Wishing you all a safe an Happy Easter.”

Earlier this week, Poirier spoke to MMA Junkie about putting this plan in motion. He said the goal was to provide meal assistance for all employees across his community.

“There’s three major hospitals here in Lafayette,” Poirier said. “We want to feed every employee – doctors, nurses – at every hospital.”

Poirier taking a role in charitable deeds is nothing new. For his past several fights, he has used The Good Fight Foundation as a platform to achieve all sorts of goals. Poirier has auctioned off his fight-worn gear to help build water walls for a Uganda orphanage, put together a playground for special needs children in his community and more.

The Good Fight Foundation is open for donations at TheGoodFightGroup.com.

Poirier (25-6 MMA, 17-5 UFC) was expected to face Dan Hooker on the UFC’s May 16 card. However, all events on indefinitely suspended as the sports world continues to be hindered by the coronavirus pandemic, so it remains to be see when he’ll return to the octagon.
